Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad mentioned five offers for reaching a world free of nuclear weapon. Speaking in International Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation in Tehran, Ahmadinejad said, “the motto of nuclear disarmament has not been implemented so far and the IAEA has failed to success in carrying out its duties.”

“Biologic, chemical and nuclear arsenals are being expanded further and arm race is increasing.” Production and stockpiling nuclear weapons as well as policies adopted by the countries owning such arms are the biggest elements of insecurity, he said adding, “annihilation of nuclear weapons and removing nuclear threat is the biggest service to lasting security.”

He then mentioned offers for a world without nuclear weapons including establishment of an international independent group for planning and monitoring atomic disarmament and preventing proliferation. He added the group should be given full authority by the UN General Assembly.

He continued membership of owners and users of nuclear weapons in the IAEA and Board of Governors should be suspended. Iranian President also urged reviewing NPT, saying that countries which do not hold nuclear arms should review NPT, but presence of countries with such weapons particularly the US in the issue hinders arrangement of a fair agreement.

Also Ahmadinejad added that the UN Security Council’s structure should be reformed, saying the current structure is heavily unfair and supports owners of nuclear weapons. He then suggested that a work group of participants in Tehran conference be formed to pursue offers.
