
Ex- Prime Minister of India Chandrashekhar is no longer with us and departed in New Delhi, early Sunday morning. The 80-year-old Lok Sabha MP and Samajwadi Janta Party leader was ailing from cancer and had been undergoing treatment at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in the capital for the past 3 months. He was in critical condition and had been under intensive care for the past week.
Shekhar was Prime Minister from November 10, 1990 to June 21, 1991. He was a Lok Sabha member from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh and chief of the Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya). Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had paid Chandrashekhar a visit at the hospital before he breathed his last. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condoled Shekhar’s death, calling him a truly secular nationalist who was committed to people’s welfare and national development.
