Drew Barrymore has replaced Will Ferrell as the most overpaid actor in Hollywood. On Thursday, November 3, Forbes Magazine published its 2011 list of Hollywood's Most Overpaid Actors, revealing that the "Going the Distance" actress tops the list with a return average of 40 cents for every dollar movie studios spend on her.
Forbes noted that the 36-year-old's films have performed horribly at the box office in the past five years. "Everybody's Fine" earned only $16 million globally and "Lucky You" brought in only $8 million. While "He's Just Not That Into You" earned $180 million worldwide, it was not counted since she wasn't really the star of the film, the magazine reasoned.
Will, in the meantime, lands third in the list this year. After owning the top spot for two previous years, his position improved with the help of his 2010 comedy "The Other Guys" which earned a total of $170 million worldwide. His "Land of the Lost" movie, however, still brought down his return average to $3.50.
On the second position is Eddie Murphy. Although his upcoming movie "Tower Heist" looks promising and he has landed 2012 Oscars hosting gig, the "Shrek Forever After" star still struggled with bombs like "Imagine That" and "Meet Dave". It was calculated that he returns $2.70 for every dollar spent on him.
Rounding up the top five are two Oscar winners, Reese Witherspoon and Denzel Washington. Reese gets the No. 4 spot largely because of her part in "How Do You Know". Her return is $3.55. Denzel, meanwhile, lands fifth on the list with a return average of $4.25.
Other Oscar winners making the list are Nicolas Cage with an average of $4.40 and Nicole Kidman with an average of $6.70. Adam Sandler, Vince Vaughn and Tom Cruise also find themselves in the list with a return average of $5.20, $5.20 and $6.35 respectively.
